Night feeding with the Popple
2am: Moses basket shakes.
2:05am: Popple’s feet appear over the edge of the moses basket.
2:07am: Popple cries.
2:08am: Pick up the Popple and change her. Popple coos and smiles and windmills her arms and legs on the changing mat. Feel better about being woken up in the middle of the night.
2:10am: Feed the Popple while listening to the TED Radio Hour from NPR.
2:25am: Popple falls asleep. Continue listening to Guy Raz talk about antibiotics being a finite resource. Feel proud of myself for spending these early morning hours learning stuff.
2:45am: Put the sleeping Popple back into her moses basket. Breathe a sigh of relief.
2:47am: Popple starts hiccuping.
2:50am: Pick up the Popple and dance her around the bedroom while singing Motown Philly.
3am: Put the Popple back into her moses basket. Go to sleep.
5am: Popple starts grunting.
5:05am: Popple’s feet appear over the edge of the moses basket.
5:10am: Pick up the Popple and feed her. Continue listening to Guy Raz. Feeling less smug and more exhausted.
5:20am: Popple burps like a 300 pound man. Falls asleep.
5:40am: Put the sleeping Popple back into her moses basket. Go to sleep.
6:15am: Popple cries.
6:16am: Wake up husband and beg him to take her out of the bedroom and entertain her. Go to sleep.
8:15am: Hear grunting. Look in the moses basket and am amazed to see the Popple there. Husband snuck her back in like a ninja.
8:16am: Rock the moses basket lazily with one finger and my eyes closed.
8:20am: Popple cries.
8:21am: Change the Popple’s nappy and put her into a daytime outfit. Realise the outfit is too big so the Popple looks like she’s wearing a sack. Too tired to take it off.
8:30am: Feed the Popple.
8:45am: Popple farts twice and screams like a banshee.
8:46am: Husband wakes up.
8:48am: Husband turns on the hairdryer.
8:50am: Popple stops crying and rests her head on my chest. Husband and I kiss the Popple on her red face.
