The lovely Ellen from Babies, Biscuits and Booze nominated me to answer the Mummy Tag questions, which are currently making their way around the mummy blogging world.
1. Are you a Stay at Home Mum or a Working Mum?
Stay at home mum, soon to be working mum. It’s going to be so weird to be in an office again. In actual clothes. With my hair done. In a bra without awkward plastic fasteners.
2. Would you have it any other way?
I’d prefer to work part-time rather than going back almost full time (4.5 days a week), but billz gotz to be paid, yo.
3. Do you co-sleep?
Not anymore – but we did. The Popple decided that she hated her cot for a few months, so she mostly slept in bed with me. She took up three quarters of the damn thing and fed every time she woke up, which was pretty much every hour. It was THE WORST.
(Sorry to all you co-sleeping fans – it sounds lovely and cozy in principle, but it was sh*t for us.)
4. What is your one must-have item for your baby?
Our baby carrier – hands down. She sometimes still naps in it at 12 months. #sleeptrainingfail
5. How many kids do you plan on having?
One is enough for now, but I wouldn’t rule a second one out. Maybe. In the very distant future. Once I have forgotten how terrible it is to not sleep for months on end.
6. Date nights? How often do you have them?
We’ve had three dates in the past year, so we’re averaging one a quarter.
But you know what is great? Staying in together and watching TV while drinking wine and eating cake. It’s kind of like going out, but you get to wear your pyjamas.
7. Your child’s favourite show?
Atención Atención. It’s totally educational because it’s in Spanish. Also the music is great. Also there is a giant frog. Also it gives me an excuse to yell, “Que pasa con la música?”
I genuinely love this show. I might actually watch it even if I didn’t have a baby.
8. Name one thing you bought before you had the baby and never ended up using.
A baby monitor. We actually tried it a few times, but our flat was really small and the battery kept dying anyway, so we just gave up and used our ears.
This baby has POWERFUL lungs.
9. Your child’s favourite food?
She loves anything with tomato sauce, which is pretty much the messiest food ever. Observe.
10. How many cars does your family have?
One. It’s a real clunker that we got for free from friends who were leaving the country. My husband is the only one who can drive it, so I’m relegated to backseat baby-entertaining duties.
11. Weight gain, before pregnancy, during, after and now?
I almost don’t want to admit this, but…I’m actually 15-20lbs lighter now than I was before I got pregnant.
(I know, I know – you probably want to punch me in the face right now. But I swear I didn’t try to lose weight – it just kind of happened. Does that make it worse? Anyway, I wrote about on the Meet Other Mums site, if you’re interested.)
12. Dream holiday with your kids?
Disney World in Florida. I’ll never forget my first trip to Disney. Granted, I was 29 years old at the time, but it was still pretty magical.
13. Dream holiday without your kids?
New Zealand or Japan. Or both. Can I do both? I can’t imagine those flights with a kid.
14. How has your life changed since having kids?
I’m always tired. I almost never go out. I can do pretty much anything with one hand. My clothes are covered in baby peanut butter fingerprints. My hair is one big mum bun. I am a master nappy changer and baby chaser. I say, “No no no, that doesn’t go in your mouth” about 20 times a day.
And it’s pretty amazing.
15. Finish the sentence “It makes my heart melt when…”
…she hugs her stuffed animals. She only recently just started doing this, and it’s pretty much the cutest thing ever.
16. Where do you shop for your kids?
I live a 5 minute drive from a Mothercare, so that’s been pretty bad for my wallet.
17. Favourite make-up and skincare products?
I’m a big fan of everything Lush, even though I can’t really afford to spend £14.25 on body scrub made from vodka-soaked limes.
18. Huggies or Pampers?
Pampers – the nighttime ones specifically. Adrian and I figured we might as well use the extra absorbent ones in the daytime too. Just in case we forget to change her – not that we ever do that.
(Okay, occasionally we do that.)
19. Have you always wanted kids?
My body wanted kids long before my brain did. My body was all like, “Yeah, let’s do this!”, but my mind was like, “Wait…you want to do WHAT?”
My brain gave in eventually, kind of.
“Let’s just see what happens,” it said, by way of compromise.
A month later, I was pregnant. Suck it, brain!
20. Best part of being a mum?
Watching her figure stuff out. I love how she studies everything – you can practically see the wheels turning in that little brain of hers.
I’d love to hear these other bloggers’ answers to these questions, if you want. No pressure, guys.
